Lead Free Children's Jewelry

All of our children's and baby jewelry is lead free. We strongly encourage you to discard or return any cheap jewelry your children have. Nearly all of it has been found to contain lead. Scroll down to read about the most recent recalls on cheap jewelry from China.

SterlingandPearls.com has taken measures to ensure that our children's jewelry is lead free.             We use the following SAFE materials to construct our jewelry for girls and babies. WE DO NOT USE Swarovski Crystals in our baby and children's name bracelet jewelry, because their crystals contain 30% - 40%   lead !

Our precious children and babies need to be protected from lead poisoning. Unfortunately, our Government has not done a great job of doing this. As parents, we must heighten our awareness on this ever so important issue.

Lead is a metal and that is poisonous and toxic to people, especially children, when it is ingested. It is no longer used as a gasoline additive, or in lead paint, but it does continue to be used in many products

After being ingested, lead enters the bloodstream and is absorbed and stored in many tissues and organs in the body, including the liver, kidneys, brain, teeth and bones. High levels can cause serious health problems in your children and can affect almost every organ system of the body, causing many different symptoms.

Genuine Pearls, Sterling Silver 925, and Czech Crystals. We do not use the ever so popular Swarovski Crystals in our Children's and baby jewelry creations because they contain 30% lead. While it would not affect an adult, it would affect a child.  Czech Crystals are from  the Czech Republic and are completely lead free.

If you see this notice:  California Residents: Proposition 65 WARNING, it means that the retailer is in California, and legally they HAVE to tell you if there is lead content. However, many in CA do not do it. The other 49 states don't have any protection. There are hundreds  of websites and stores that sell lead jewelry or the Swarovski Crystals in their baby and Children's jewelry, and they do not notify the consumer. Why aren't they telling consumers?

Here we will list updates and recalls on children's Jewelry for you.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said that Dollar Tree Stores (DLTR) is conducting a voluntary recall of certain children's jewelry manufactured in China which the commission said contains high levels of lead.

The agency said Thursday the company is recalling about 198,000 units of metal jewelry under the Beary Cute, Expressions, and Sassy & Chic names. The jewelry was made in China and imported by Greenbrier International, Inc., Chesapeake, Va.  No injuries have been reported from use of the items, the commission said.

The items were sold in various Dollar Tree locations nationwide from December 2005 through July of this year. Consumers should return the recalled jewelry to the store where purchased for a refund.

The recall involves the item numbers 855589, 873091, 873097, or 903950. The item number can be found on the reverse of the packaging.

While the Consumer Product Safety Commission continues to recall children's jewelry containing lead almost every week, consumer advocates are urging parents to use caution when purchasing any cheap jewelry and to consider discarding any that may already be in the home.

A sample testing by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) revealed that 20 percent of children's jewelry contains unsafe levels of lead. Other tests by state officials in Maryland, Ohio and Massachusetts suggest even higher percentages.

A June 29 article by ConsumerAffairs.Com revealed 96 percent of the toys recalled from January 2007 to July were Chinese imports and most were lead-laden trinkets.

"Parents should stay away from cheap jewelry, absolutely. And I would advise parents to throw away any cheap jewelry unless they are sure it comes from the U.S. or a more developed country," Sally Greenberg, Senior Product Safety Counsel for the Consumers Union, the nonprofit publisher of Consumer Reports, wrote in an e-mail.
